School Safety

Pupil Safety

The safety of your children is one of our primary concerns. Therefore, we request your cooperation in the following safety practices.

WALKING ROUTES

Set a good example for your child and cross them only in the crosswalks which are located at all four corners of the school. PLEASE IMPRESS UPON YOUR CHILDREN WHO WALK TO SCHOOL TO CROSS AT THE CROSSWALKS ONLY AND TO OBEY SIGNALS. DO NOT EVERY CROSS IN THE DROP OFF VALET AREA ON STRATHERN STREET!

TRAFFIC SAFETY AT SCHOOL

Please use the following practices for safe curb parking in the morning and at dismissal time when you drop off and pick up your children:

  1. VERY IMPORTANT: Due to the increased number of buses coming to our Magnet school this year, it is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that no passenger cars be parked between the posted no parking zones in the front of the school. LAPD Parking enforcement frequents this area using video and camera technology to issue costly citations.
  2. In the best interest of the students' welfare, parents who drive their children to school , and students who walk home south of the school, will enter and exit the Strathern St. gate. Students who ride the bus and those students who walk home NORTH of the school will enter and exit the Lorne St. gate.
  3. The gates will open at 7:40 a.m. and are locked and closed at 8:05 a.m. The Lorne gate (front) closes in the afternoon by 3:00 p.m. Use the Strathern St. gate to pick up children after 3:00 p.m.
  4. If you should park across the streets, please instruct your child to cross at the corner and DO NOT MOTION HIM/HER TO CROSS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET!
  5. Do not Double Park. Children must exit cars at curbside.
  6. Do not make U-turns after drop-offs.
  7. Please follow the directions of the assistants who supervise before and after school.
  8. Please do not honk your car horn when picking up your child after school. This is extremely rude and bothersome to our neighbors. Imagine if your house was in the neighborhood. Be courtious.
  9. Park your car near the gate and get out of your car to pick up your child from the yard.
  10. Please do not use the parking lot to drop off your children. It is a safety hazard.

BICYCLES/ ROLLER BLADES/ SKATEBOARDS

Children in 4th and 5th grades who return a bicycle registration card are permitted to ride their bicycles to school. Riding a bicycle to school is considered a privilege, which can be revoked if a child does not exhibit safe riding habits. Helmets are required for all riders. Bicycles should have a lock and a city license. Bicycles must be walked on school grounds at all times. SKATEBOARDS, SCOOTERS, ROLLERBLADES AND SHOE SKATES ARE NOT TO BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL OR USED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS.
