About Us

Lorne St. Elementary/Lorne St. Math Science Technology Magnet

Our school, located in the San Fernando Valley, in the great city of Northridge, is a gem.  We are just minutes away from the 405 and 101 freeways. Lorne St. has a great community filled with helpful families and neighbors who really make Lorne St. Elementary school a special place to learn. Many of our teachers have been here over 20 years and love calling Lorne their home. Our Math Science Technology Magnet is a popular selection from LAUSD's CHOICES catalog year after year due to our teachers, staff, administration, and parent support in making the best learning environment for our students.

Our Wonder of Reading School Library and Literacy Garden offers our students a couple of peaceful settings where students can read for pleasure.

All of our students recieve psychomotor program (Physical Education) on a weekly basis by highly trained physical fitness coaches who come to our campus from the YMCA (sponsored by the PTA)

Our school is very culturally diverse and is designated as a Title1 School and receives Title 1 funding.

We have a very active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) who are valuable partners in Lornes efforts to provide our students with a full, cutural, and multifaceted educational experience.   Our PTA volunteers are very generous with their time, support and resources to sponsor programs, field trips, and generate funds to assist with the "extras" that may not be funded elsewhere.  New Parent Volunteers are always welcome. Further PTA information can be found by clicking on the PTA heading found at the top of our website.

Lorne offers three after-school childcare options whose hours coordinate with our various bell schedules: Creative Kids, Youth Development Program (YDP) Beyond the Bell Program, and Youth Services. There are childcare options available even to our Kindergarten students. Further information regarding after-school programs can be found under the General Information heading.

We invite you to come and discover for yourself why Lorne is often refered to as the "hidden gem of the valley"!
